Denise has been playing chess since 2007 and began coaching for Dark Horse Chess in 2016. She enjoys teaching through various methods to cater to the needs of the learner and is always happy to incorporate modified/mini games to help players grasp certain concepts of the game before incorporating it in a full game. Alongside tactical and strategy based puzzles, she strongly believes in game analysis and practical game play to be the most crucial aspects of improving one’s chess. She has represented Australia at two ASEAN Age Group Chess Championships in Huey, Vietnam (2009) and Subic Bay, Philippines (2010), and holds 3 Australian and 3 Victorian Junior Chess Championship Girls titles. Aside from chess, she is an avid table tennis player and coach at Croydon Districts and Table Tennis Association, enjoys playing music, going fishing and cooking/baking delectable treats in her spare time. She is currently undertaking a BSc at the University of Melbourne and aspires to continue further studies in allied health after her undergraduate degree.
